Our Organization’s History

In the late 1960’s, the Lutheran Church and Creighton University began to work with the local Native American community to provide health care, education, screening and referrals at a free clinic known as The American Indian Center. Also during that time, the major meat packing plants left South Omaha. This created an employment and financial crisis, especially for minority families, many of them Hispanic. The clinic was expanded in 1970 to include Hispanics and was renamed the Indian-Chicano Health Center. In response to the rapidly growing population of Spanish-speaking patients, the clinic has moved and expanded services three times.

OneWorld Community Health Centers, in partnership with the community, provide cultural respectful, quality health care to the underserved.
